Having kicked off back in September, the winner of this year's bada Student Developer Challenge organised by PocketGamer.biz publisher Steel Media and sponsored by Samsung has finally been unveiled.

The winning entry one of twelve that made it through to the final 24 hour codathon at BAFTA HQ in London was "organic scrolling shooter" Moeba by University of Abertay team Quartic Llama (pictured below).

The outfit took home a total of £6,500 for its troubles.

Bada battle

The event was designed to showcase just what can be achieved with Samsung's bada platform, with members of the UK bada team having visited each university in turn to introduce student entrants to the challenge.

Teams that made it through then had to pitch their ideas to the judges, before going on to write the code and create all app assets for the final showdown.

"It has been very competitive but ultimately we thought the winner had a really creative product and a great idea," said Steel Media MD Chris James, announcing the winner.

"Thanks to Samsung and all the developers for taking part in the challenge. We will be back again next year, stay tuned."

Top of the pops

Second spot - and £2,500 - went to University of York team The Time Is Now with "ultimate alarm clock" app Don't Be Lazy.

King's College London outfit Razvan took home £1,000 in third place with sketch-battler Doodle Fight.
