Urban Airship tops 20 billion push notifications on iOS and Android

With more than 65,000 companies tapping into its technology, infrastructure specialist Urban Airship has revealed it has delivered more than 20 billion push notifications across iOS and Android to date.
The milestone, which was officially passed on 6 May, is the result of what CMO Brent Hieggelke claims is "record" growth each and every month, with the likes of ESPN and Groupon employing the firm's notification system.
Push power
"We want to explain to people how to maximise the value of notifications," Hieggelke told VentureBeat, detailing the company's 'Good Push' campaign, designed to educate mobile marketers as to best way to use notifications to reach their target audience.
Urban Airship passed 10 billion notifications back in January, meaning the company has doubled its output over the course of the last five months, averaging out at 2 billion notifications pushed out to users each and every month.
"Every month we set new records for growth," Hieggelke added. "But we were all surprised by the shape of that curve."
The Oregan-based company has raised a total of $21.6 million in funding to date, most recently during a Series C round of funding supported by Salesforce.com, Verizon Wireless, Foundry Group and True Ventures.
