Wooga cuts 40 jobs amid a restructuring of its casual games development

German casual mobile game developer Wooga has let go 40 of its staff as part of internal restructuring.

The layoffs come off the back of a number of underperforming games, including the high-profile Futurama: Game of Drones, released earlier in 2016.

Wooga has also restructured into three smaller studios that will work on distinct genres of casual game: puzzle, hidden object, and casual simulation.

A new approach

The casual simulation studio will also be working on Apple Watch games, a platform that has seen impressive retention stats for Wooga already.

It’s unclear if the spun-off midcore studio Black Anvil Games is affected by the cuts, but given that its first game, Warlords, continues to be updated, it seems unlikely.
