At this year’s WWDC, Jon has been liveblogging the event, and picked up on an interesting titbit regarding the 3.0 software update for the iPhone.

In-game micro-transactions have already been announced, but the profit system was a matter of brief discussion for the developers in the audience.

Apparently 3.0 microtransactions will operate on the same share as all iPhone applications, with Apple taking a 30 per cent cut and passing the remaining 70 per cent back to the developer.

Free applications won’t be able to use the micro-transaction system, however, so a little extra planning will be required for any developers looking to launch a free-to-play game, such as Runescape.
