Yahoo! rolls out Android app store in Japan, plans to start selling apps in Q2 2012
Such is the open nature of Android, that in theory, at least everyone and their dog can take a stab at launching an app store on the platform.
Though not a marketplace in the traditional sense, Yahoo! is the latest company to make a move on the OS, adding to existing app stores from the likes of Amazon and GetJar.
First step
The new platform, dubbed Yahoo Market, has rolled out on Android in Japan.
For the time being, however, Yahoo! will not actually be selling any apps on the store, rather, linking to the existing Android Market.
The company has stated that it will begin selling its own apps from Q2 2012.
It's move follows a similar decision taken by GetJar, which recently began listing 50,000 free apps from Android Market on its store via links to their respective pages on Google's marketplace.
