We reported on the Zeemote Global Game Developers Contest when it was first announced at the end of March, at the GDC in San Francisco, and we've just heard that the deadline has now been extended to July 31st.

“We’ve been extremely happy with the response to our developers contest with Asian, European and Latin American mobile game developers especially well represented,” says Glenn Kiladis, vice president of marketing at Zeemote.

The competition challenges developers to create either a new game that makes use of the unique, Bluetooth mobile game controller, or modify and existing one to work with the analogue thumbstick and buttons.

“With a prize fund totalling $10,000 and with the opportunity to have their games delivered to customers around the world via Zeemote’s leading handset manufacturer and operator partners, developers seem to be rising to the challenge,” Kiladis continues.

The Zeemote was recently launched in the UK as part of a deal with Sony Ericsson, but perhaps more excitingly it was also revealed to be compatible with the iPhone. Hopefully this continued developer interest in the peripheral will bring it compatibility to more games and devices.
