Nintendo Switch online subscriptions reach 9.8 million in six months

Nintendo has revealed that 9.8 million Switch owners have signed up to its premium online service.

The online subscription went live in September 2018, meaning that nearly 10 million users have opted for the service in six months.

This number excludes any free trial accounts, however it includes discounted family memberships which can be shared between a maximum of eight consoles.

Nintendo’s online service costs $19.99 a year and arrives with a handful of NES games that have been modified to include online features.

Third of Switch owners

Hardware sales for the Switch were recently confirmed to have hit 34.74 million units. From this, we can see that over a third of owners hold online subscriptions.

Since February, Tetris 99 has been part of the online subscription package. The battle royale spin on the classic game was confirmed to have had 2.8 million players since its launch.
