Apple is expected to begin production of its iPhones in India by the end of April, according to Bloomberg.

The news outlet reports that a regional minister stated the devices would be manufactured in Bangalore. He also said that the devices manufactured would be targeted at the local market.

Taiwan's Wistron Corporation will handle the actual manufacturing of the devices. The state has also offered to provide Apple help if it were to tap up other manufacturers in the region to boost production.

Moving fast

Reports of Apple's talks to move manufacturing into India were first seen in December 2016. The thinking behind the move seems to be cheaper costs of shipping iPhones in the region, making targets easier to hit.

Apple has been gaining ground in India recently despite heavy competition from cheaper Android devices. Its iPhone took a 66% market share of all phones sold in the country in October 2016.
