Two days, a lot of sales
In-app spending generated $500 million in revenue during Christmas 2016

In-app spending during the Christmas weekend grew 52% to $500 million in 2016 compared to 2015, according to Sensor Tower.

The intelligence firm found that 87% of this spend came from mobile games alone. This equates to approximately $439.5 million.

Breaking it down by platform, Sensor Tower found that in the US in-app revenues grew 66% on Android for the weekend. iOS revenues grew a comparatively smaller 18%, but still generated $98 million.

The usual suspects

The games that topped the spending for Christmas worldwide were the usual suspects – Clash Royale led the way, followed by Monster Strike, Clash of Clans, Pokemon GO and Fate/Grand Order.

The latter title is a relative newcomer to the top grossing ranks and has repeatedly out-grossed Pokemon GO in Japan during 2016.
