Discord is preparing an initial public offering (IPO) with the assistance of Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase, according to a report.

Bloomberg has cited “people familiar with the matter” as claiming the communications platform is considering a stock market listing as soon as this year, though plans, including timing and advisers, may still change.

In 2022, Discord considered a direct listing instead of a traditional IPO. Last year, its CEO stated the company would "probably go public" but provided no timeline or details.

New offerings, new competition

Last year, Discord introduced ads on its platform as part of its strategy to expand revenue streams through advertising.

The social platform also launched a new social SDK toolkit, allowing developers to integrate its social features into games, even for players without a Discord account.

Elsewhere, the platform isn't without its competitors and one of them is STAN, a gaming community that has ambitions to become India's Discord.

We recently caught up with STAN CEO and co-founder Parth Chadha to learn more about its competition with Discord and plans to empower creators.
