New release The Sims Mobile and top grossing stalwart Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes helped propel EA to revenues of $5.2 billion for the year ending March 31st 2018.

The figure represented a revenue increase from $4.8 billion the year prior. Profits meanwhile also grew from $967 million to $1 billion.

EA Mobile's net bookings grew five per cent year-on-year to $659 million. Q4 revenues came in at $176 million, just a one per cent rise from the same period the year prior.

According to EA COO Blake Jorgensen, strength in Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes and FIFA Mobile for the year was offset by the anticipated decline in some of our older games.

The Sims community also managed to pull in over 80 million players across PC and mobile over the last year. The Sims Mobile broke out of soft launch in March and quickly topped global App Store charts.

In a galaxy, far far away

EA expects its mobile business to grow by 15 to 20 per cent in net bookings over the next fiscal year. It anticipates this growth will be led by The Sims Mobile, FIFA Mobile, Star Wars: Rise to Power and a new title that will be announced at EA Play.

“EA’s mobile portfolio will continue to grow in FY19,” said EA CEO Andrew Wilson.

“In recent years, our mobile games have been some of the most engaging new games to enter the marketplace. We are doubling down in FY19 with two new titles – Star Wars Rise to Power, and another game we’ll reveal at EA Play – both unlike anything else in our mobile line-up today.

“Each game crosses into new genres, with social layers designed to bring together global communities.”
