Zynga acquires HTML5 specialist Dextrose

Zynga Germany is go

Representing its first major move into the European market, social studio Zynga has acquired Mainz based developer Dextrose for an undisclosed fee.

As a result of the deal, the studio will be rebranded Zynga Germany, with the firm set to move its operations to Frankfurt as part of its subsidiary status.

An eye on Aves

Dextrose's purchase seems to go beyond mere efforts to expand, however, with the firm's Aves game engine offering real logistical value.

Aves is most notable for its support for HTML5, allowing developers to create rich 2D and 3D titles either on the web or through mobile browsers.

It's a set up that has the potential to allow Zynga to run future releases on smartphone browsers with minimal effort, with the studio having already given its advocacy to the HTML5 standard.

Dextrose, which has been absorbed into Zynga with immediate effect, has confirmed that founders Paul Bakaus and Rocco Di Leo will stay on as Zynga Germany's CTO and country manager respectively.
