Game of Thrones: Dragonfire soft launches in Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines

Warner Bros. has soft launched Game of Thrones: Dragonfire in Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines as it taps the fantasy licence again for another mobile game.
Available exclusively on the Google Play Store for now, Game of Thrones: Dragonfire takes inspiration from the hit HBO show’s House of the Dragon spinoff, set nearly 200 years before Game of Thrones itself.
The mobile game is set when House of the Dragon’s Rhaenyra Targaryen is in the throes of war. As an officially licenced game, it also uses some characters’ likenesses from the show rather than reimagine them based on the books.
As its name suggests, Game of Thrones: Dragonfire prominently features dragons from the IP’s universe such as Syrax and Vhagar, able to be hatched and trained into destructive forces on the battlefield.

Game of Thrones: Dragonfire falls into the same genre as 2017 strategy game Game of Thrones: Conquest, though the older title has largely focused on the original IP - predating House of the Dragon’s release.
In Dragonfire, players must manage funds, crops, minerals, troops and more in their war to take over Westeros, making deals and expanding their influence across the map. Battles take place through tile-based combat across iconic landmarks like Dragonstone.

Game of Thrones: Dragonfire’s soft launch has come just before the global release of Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, yet another licenced game leveraging the series’ popular characters and locales. Though, Kingsroad has taken an action RPG approach where Dragonfire has opted for strategy gameplay.
Both titles also follow Zynga’s 2024 match-3 game Game of Thrones: Legends, which Jon Snow actor Kit Harrington promoted as star-studded marketing campaigns continue to expand in prevalence.
