Google is currently holding talks with eBay to discuss the possibility of bringing PayPal to Android Market, reports Bloomberg.

Though the talks aren't public, it's believed the move which will serve as an additional option to the existing set-up of paying by credit card or Google Checkout could see PayPal hitting Android before the end of the year.

PayPal has a vested interest in the mobile market, with its set-up already available as a method of payment on BlackBerry App World and the company serving up tools for in-app payments on Android.

PayPal for all

The proposed link-up is being pitched as an attempt by Google to make Android, which is reportedly outselling both BlackBerry and iPhone in the US, a more attractive platform to the mass-market.

PayPal has a userbase of more than 73 million active accounts worldwide, the idea being those signed up to the service might be more keen on Android and, indeed, buying apps on their devices if it's formally available on the platform.

However, some commentators have already suggested carrier billing might be a more efficient method of streamlining the payments process, with PayPal possibly acting as a stop-gap while arrangements with individual operators can be set-up.
