Not the StarCraft country anymore
Video: En Masse Entertainment on how to make it in South Korea

At Pocket Gamer Connects San Francisco 2015, Soo Min Park, COO of En Masse Entertainment, gave a talk on South Korea's transition from PC to mobile gaming.

South Korea used to be known as "the StarCraft country", but thanks to the rise of free-to-play in the country, and PC publishers shifting focus to the mobile industry, PC revenues are now going down while mobile revenue goes up.

Focus on the live service

In terms of breaking into the market, Park said that you "have to publish your game on the Kakao platform", a messaging service that is installed on 93% of devices and is now used to publish and advertise games.

Park also said that "focusing on the live service is the key in the Korean market", so developers should make sure to regularly update the game and run regular events to engage the audience.
