Job Title Event Content Assistant
Job Description

Steel Media hosts regular b2b conferences that support, education and connect the global games industry. They bring the games industry together in important cultural centres – from London to Seattle, Helsinki, Hong Kong and beyond – to do business and share knowledge. In the last year, they have also taken place online, using tools like Zoom, but they retain their core character of talks and panels and networking.

The role
This is a part-time, work-from-anywhere role, supporting the head of content. It’s a chance to get involved in a leading series of b2b games industry conferences. You will immerse yourself in the mobile gaming business and be responsible for the research and administration of our event series. You will assist the head of content with the execution of the scheduled content – speaker talks and panels. You will contact potential speakers and manage their participation in our events. This will include a high level of administration and email management – across multiple events at times – and the ability to engage with multiple potential speakers while maintaining a proactive approach to finalising the conference content is key.

Summary of responsibilities
The role would naturally evolve with market trends and any changes in the company, and as an editorial manager you will need to be flexible, but the initial focus would be items like this:

• Assist with researching topics – research and understand games industry topics, help the head of content find speakers working in certain areas, devise panel and talk titles and more
• Answer everyday emails – respond to standard requests from speakers and manage incoming queries (especially in Patty’s absence)
• Liaise with other departments, particularly Marketing – be fully aware of everything that’s happening with speakers at the conference and be able to provide other teams at the company, especially Marketing, with information when they request it
• Stay on top of the documents and notes – you will make sure that our planning sheets and docs are up to date, accurate and labelled according to our internal style
• You will help the team identify key speakers, approaching them and signing them up for our conference series under the guidance of the head of content
• Manage and execute the speaker invitation process (in liaison with in-house conference team who will handle standard logistics), leading with speaker outreach, both at single- and multi-conference level.
• Scheduling talks at Pocket Gamer Connects and liaising with speakers throughout the process. You'll work with the head of content and representatives of other departments to ensure external speakers and sponsors – and internal departments – have all the information to run the event.

Required skills
• You will be exceptionally organised, able to work methodically and follow processes religiously to complete documents and update systems in a consistent and systematic manner with exceptional attention to detail.
• Highly self-motivated, willing to learn, and exceptionally proactive, able to work to own initiative, multi-task, meet deadlines, and manage time and workload
• Excellent communication ability, written and verbal, and able to maintain a diplomatic approach to trying to resolve difficulties when required
• Experience using key office software, including Google Docs.

Ideal candidate
This role is suited to a super keen, personable individual who loves planning and organisation, loves games, loves talking to people in the industry, and is excited by the challenge of creating content for a live event. You'll be able to manage your own time and work on your own initiative while also being able to support the head of content and other teams.

Steel Media is a small company where the teams work on a number of projects simultaneously; decisions are made quickly, and no two days are the same. So you’ll need to be good at working independently when needed, and respond to the wider needs of the senior managers as they arise. You need to manage multiple communications channels daily, via email, Skype, Zoom and Google Docs and not be fazed by this. Due to working remotely, you will need to be comfortable being out of an office setting (it doesn't suit everyone) and be able to communicate and report to your line manager via Skype and other online systems regularly.
