Konami profits up to $182 million as Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links surpasses 25 million downloads

Konami (TYO:9766) has released its financials for its Q3 FY17 for the nine months ending December 31st 2016.

It posted revenues of $1.44 billion, down 8.5% year-on-year. However, it also reported profits of $181.9 million, an increase of 229.8% year-on-year.

In its Digital Entertainment segment, which includes its mobile games, Konami posted revenues of $647.8 million, down 9% year-on-year. Mobile revenues were not broken out.

Newcomers and old favourites

The publisher pointed to the recently launched Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links as one of its key performers. The game has now achieved 25 million downloads worldwide since launching in Japan on November 17th.

Jikkyou Pawafuru Puroyakyu continued to bolster sales, surpassing 29 million downloads during the quarter. Its spin-off football title, Jikkyou Powerful Soccer, passed five million downloads.

The Q3 financials are the first time in Konami's FY17 that its Digital Entertainment revenues have fallen. This may be due to the company refocusing its efforts on mobile releases instead of major holiday launches on consoles and PC.
