Kabam and Longtu Games have entered into a strategic partnership that will see Marvel Contest of Champions released the Chinese market later in 2015.

Kabam will culturalise the game, under Longtu's direction for Chinese sensibilities and taste, with the China company in charge of publishing and distribution in various app store.

We first reported at the beginning of this month that Kabam was on the hunt for a Chinese partner to help launch the game, and a number of names were in the hat including Alibaba, Tencent and Baidu, so Longtu's selection is something of a minor surprise.

The game will be the first Kabam-made title developed for the west and published in China, and terms of the deal with Longtu were not disclosed.

Roaring success

Since its release in late 2014, Marvel Contest of Champions has been downloaded more than 31 million times, and been successful globally, most recently gaining an update to support the Avengers: Age of Ultron film.

Longtu itself boasts Dao Ta Chuan Qi in its portfolio, which has topped Chinese app stores since its 2014 release. The Beijing-based company was founded in 2008, and with 1,000 staff also boasts studios in Shanghai and Changsha.

“Kabam has proven time and again to be the industry’s best steward of iconic Hollywood franchises,” said Longtu CEO Shenghui Yang in a statement.

“We believe Marvel Contest of Champions is the next big hit in China. Leveraging Kabam’s expertise in developing hit games and Longtu’s industry leadership in publishing popular games in China, this is an unbeatable partnership.”
