Sounds familiar somehow
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was the top-selling game in the US in April 2017

Nintendo's Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was the top-selling game in April 2017 in the US despite only being on sale for two days of the month, according to the NPD Group.

Including digital sales, it sold a total of 550,000 units in these two days, out-stripping its rivals for the entire month. It achieved a similar feat in the UK, though specific sales figures for the region were not available.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe had sold 459,000 units on launch day in the US, meaning it generated 91,000 sales on its second day. The impressive numbers make it the fastest-selling entry in the Mario Kart franchise ever in the US.

Triple boost

The Nintendo Switch itself performed well in April too, selling 280,000 units in the US alone. Combined with sales of its 3DS family of consoles, Nintendo made up almost half of all hardware sales in the US for April 2017.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild continued to perform well too. While no exact sales figures were provided, it was found to be the third-best selling game in the US in April.

All this points to sales of the Switch and its games not slowing down any time soon. It had already sold 2.74 million units in its launch month alone.
