PAI Partners in talks to buy Catan maker Asmodee for $1.4 billion

Private equity group is in discussions to purchase in board game company Asmodee for €1.2bn ($1.4 billion) from owner Eurazeo.

Asmodee owns various board game IPs including Catan, Ticket to Ride and Takenoko, as well as acting as a distributor for Pokemon and Magic trading cards..

It also has a video games publishing division, Asmodee Digital, that has brought many of its IP to PC, mobile and VR.

Last year revenues at the company reached €442 million.

Ticket to buy

PAI said it aims to support the existing management team and growth the business further through international expansion, both organically and via acquisitions.

Other plans include “diversifying the group’s main brands onto other platforms”, which could potentially mean further games investment and extending its IP to TV and film.

PAI's acquisition is still subject to agreement and approval.
