South Korean developer and publisher Nexon has pulled the plug on a Warhammer RPG game from Thought Pennies

As reported by Eurogamer, former Thought Pennies developers left after work on the Warhammer: Age of Sigmar game was halted. The title was being developed in collaboration with Games Workshop and Nexon before its cancellation.

“While the partnership worked well and we got a lot of good input from Nexon, Nexon made a strategic change," a Thought Pennies spokesperson told Eurogamer. “Late last year we agreed to end the project and Nexon is helping as a board member."

What could've been

press release in 2021 showed that Nexon and Games Workshop were collaborating on a new Warhammer game, described as a "PvE social multiplayer" with a focus on a socially interactive player-versus-environment world, supported by Nexon's live operations for ongoing content and services.

The game was planned for PC, consoles, and mobile platforms, but the developer Thought Pennies was not mentioned in the release.

The 2021 description of the cancelled Warhammer: Age of Sigmar RPG described an era of war where the Mortal Realms, ravaged by the Chaos Gods, teeter on the edge of destruction.

Players would command the forces of the God-king Sigmar and his allies to restore order and hope. Each season, players would collect characters with unique stories and gameplay, customise them, and work together to reclaim parts of the Realms.

Elsewhere, Games Workshop is looking to expand the Warhammer series further after the success of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2. Also, the studio has finalised plans with Amazon Studios to bring Warhammer 40K to film and TV.
