RIM loses BBX trademark case, OS renamed as BlackBerry 10
Poor old RIM. Looking to the future its new OS - once called QNX - was rebranded as BBX at its DevCon event in San Francisco in October.
Sadly, it transpires that BBX was already trademarked, and a US court has now granted a temporary restraining order in favour of software company BASIS International.
2 Many BBXs
The court concluded that "The alleged infringement is likely to cause customers and prospective customers to wrongly believe that the software applications created using BASIS's development tools are only compatible with RIM's BBX operating system."
Its BBX platform runs software such as restaurant tip calculator and home mortgage calculator applications.
RIM has thus rebranded its rebrand, with its 'BBX' now to be known as BlackBerry 10, or BB10, at least according to its official developer Twitter account.
