As we've all experienced thanks to iPhone apps such as Facebook, and more recently the We Rule MMOG, push notifications can be a powerful tool for developers to make their apps and games stickier.

Good news then for BlackBerry developers as RIM has announced 'super push notifications' (my description, not its).

More technically, it explains the BlackBerry Push Service enables developers to easily develop Java applications or web widgets that leverage its technology so you can push images, text, or audio content to millions of BlackBerry devices at once.

So as well as just informing users what's going on, the service enables you to push content of up to 8KB directly onto the device.

The BlackBerry Push Service comes in two flavours.

The first is the free BlackBerry Push Essentials. The second is BlackBerry Push Plus, which comes with free and paid options.

All of the features and capabilities of the BlackBerry Push Service apply to BlackBerry Push Essentials and the free tier of BlackBerry Push Plus (up to 100,000 pushes per day).

You can find out more details about the service via BlackBerry's developers website.
