Subway Surfers’ 13th anniversary will introduce its 200th destination in its World Tour series and add a new type of in-game event, adding a new city for players to run through each day of the event.

The anniversary update will release on May 12th with an in-game setting of Copenhagen, taking the title back to its origin point.

Throughout the celebratory period, players will be able to run through the Danish capital in addition to 21 other unlockable cities, including Paris, London, Tokyo and Rio.

Players will be able to unlock new cities by collecting World Tour suitcase tokens.

Running all over the world

Subway Surfers first launched on May 23rd, 2012 and the endless runner has since become the most downloaded mobile game in the world - at over four billion installs globally.

Sybo has attributed part of Subway Surfers’ ongoing success to the World Tour series, ensuring its 150 million monthly active players continue to have a "fresh" experience with new in-game environments every month. It’s been running regularly since 2013.

At PGC London, Sybo head of brand Adam Collier shared that Subway Surfers has "very little paid user acquisition".

The anniversary update will also introduce new outfits, boards and two new travel-themed characters, Loc and Stevie, with an event period spanning May 12th to June 1st.

"With a global player base like Subway Surfers, it’s important that everyone feels a personal connection to the game," said Sybo CEO Mathias Gredal Nørvig.

"The World Tour series has allowed us to do just that - cultivating a ‘global-local’ experience that has contributed largely to the game’s lasting success over the past 13 years.

"We’re excited to celebrate both turning 13 and visiting 200 cities in our World Tour, and are looking forward to Subway Surfers’ next chapter as we kick off its teenage years."
