Supercell has opened discussions with other studios to transfer Space Ape’s remaining portfolio of games following its 100% acquisition of the company.

Speaking during a presentation on the company’s financials today, CEO Ilkka Paananen said, as revealed last year, that Supercell will be opening a new London office with Space Ape forming the ‘backbone’ of the team. It already employs around 100 staff.

He said the new studio will focus solely on on Supercell games, including titles that are already live, as well as a new game team.

Maintaining service

Paananen stressed the importance of keeping Space Ape’s existing games live for players, with discussions taking place to transfer the titles to other studios.

Titles in the developer's portfolio include Chrome Valley Customs, Fastlane: Road to Revenge, and Transformers: Earth Wars.

No exact details were provided on potential buyers.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Space Ape co-founder and executive Simon Hade had opened a new studio called NextBeat, which includes a number of the developer’s alumni. The new team, backed by Supercell, has taken control of Space Ape-developed music titles such as Beatstar and Country Star.

We spoke with Hade about his plans for the new studio and its vision for shaping the future of music-driven games.
