Tencent's hit MOBA Honour of Kings has made more than $3.5 billion in revenue since launching in November 2015.

According to Sensor Tower, the Shenzhen behemoth’s home country has remained the most lucrative and contributed 96 per cent of the total.

Revenue made in China from Honour of Kings came in at $89.2 million for the first half of 2018. That total is a 25 per cent increase on the $70.9 million made during the same period the year prior.

Looking abroad

Outside of China, the MOBA has cleared $140 million.

Excluding China, revenue for the first half of this year came in at $46.6 million, which is a 50 per cent increase on the $30.9 million made in 2017.

The increase in revenue was likely aided by the game's steady rollout in West. Known as Arena of Valor in the US and Europe, it landed in the former in December and August in the latter.

Speaking to PocketGamer.Biz at Gamescom, Tencent America director of esports Ramon Hermann explained that differing performance in the West and East comes down to structural reasons, as mobile gaming is more widely accepted in the East.
