Game developer Virtuos has opened a new studio in Seoul, South Korea.

Aptly named Virtuos Seoul, the office will be led by general manager Seunghwan “Sean” Yoon. He will report to managing director of North Asia Philippe Angely.

Yoon brings 20 years of experience in the games industry. He's held key roles at studios like Kabam and Webzen, with experience across Asia, Europe, and North America.

Other key members of the new office include development director Kyungjin Lee, senior business development manager Sangwon Suh and executive producer Wang Yufang.

The company said that Virtuos Seoul will act as a hub to bridge Korean clients with global teams while addressing local market needs. It is actively hiring to fill roles in the new office and is open to partnerships.

Addressing challenges

Founded in 2004, Virtuos employs over 4,200 staff across 25 offices in Asia, Europe, and North America. It specialises in full-cycle development and art production for console, PC, and mobile titles.

“Gaming is deeply ingrained in Korean culture," said Yoon. “As the world’s fourth-largest games market, South Korea has produced some of the world’s biggest hits and remains a top gaming hub.

“Establishing a physical studio in Seoul enables Virtuos to directly address the unique challenges faced by Korean studios, with the proximity facilitating closer co-development and collaboration.

“We look forward to helping bring more Korean games to the global stage and vice versa, unlocking new audiences for studios and new content for players alike.”
