Wuhan opens first mini-game incubation base in China

Wuhan has launched a mini-game incubation base in China, attracting over 70 video game companies including a Tencent subsidiary.
Yicai Global learned that during the opening ceremony, Tencent Cloud, Amazon Web Services, and a local branch of Douyin Group signed deals to launch operations at Wuhan’s new mini-game incubation base.
Moreover, the Wuhan Digital Creative and Game Industry Association has relocated to the facility, aiming to promote industry standardisation and resource integration.
A lucrative sector
Mini-games are booming in China thanks to easy access through apps like WeChat, Douyin, and Alipay, generating ¥39.8 billion ($5.3bn) in 2024.
That's according to industry expert Xiong Shuo, who said that the market is also gaining traction abroad, with 17 Chinese mini-games earning over $470 million internationally in early 2023.
In a September guest post, game design expert Jakub Remiar highlighted how WeChat Minigames generated $2.3bn in revenue in just the first half of 2024 in China, and discussed the platform’s growing potential.
