Super Mario Odyssey sells two million units in its first three days of release

Fastest-selling Super Mario game ever in the US and Europe

Super Mario Odyssey sells two million units in its first three days of release

Nintendo's latest Switch game Super Mario Odyssey sold over two million units sold in just three days of its release.

The company also stated that 1.1 million units have been sold in the US alone in its first five days. This makes it the fastest selling Super Mario game of all time in the US, and the fastest-selling game on the console so far.

Japanese website Famitsu reports that the game has cleared 500,000 units in Japan in its first three days. This is only for the physical release of the game – downloads are not counted.

The official Nintendo Europe Twitter account has also confirmed that the game is the fastest-selling Super Mario game in Europe, though did not provide any sales figures.

Responding positively

"The public continues to respond positively to Mario’s latest adventure," said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s President and COO.

"We’re also seeing sales momentum for Nintendo Switch thanks to an ever-growing catalog of games from large publishers and indie developers."

Nintendo has so far sold 7.63 million units of the Switch console, which means over a quarter of all console owners also own Super Mario Odyssey. Some have argued that the console is a sort of duck-billed platypus of the console world.
