Apple has offered a new $1 billion green bond dedicated to funding clean energy and environmental projects.

As reported by Reuters, it is the first corporate green bond to be offered following US President Donald Trump's announcement that the US would withdraw from the 2015 Paris climate agreement.

Apple had previously offered a $1.5 billion green bond in 2016 in response to the Paris agreement. The second bond is being used to show that businesses are still committed to fulfilling the agreement.

Going green

"Leadership from the business community is essential to address the threat of climate change and protect our shared planet," said Apple's vice president of environment, policy, and social initiatives Lisa Jackson.

The company used $442 million from its previous bond offering for 16 different projects last year, including initiatives relating to recycling and renewable energy.

Apple is itself a green company, and now uses 100% renewable energy in 24 countries, including China. Overall, 96% of Apple's business runs on green energy.
