Weekly global mobile games charts: Brawl Stars fires into US top 10 download and grossing rankings

To give our readers better insight into the global mobile games industry, we’ve teamed up with market data firm Sensor Tower to bring you exclusive weekly charts from key countries.

These rank games by free downloads, paid downloads and the top grossers across the App Store and Google Play. Each week we’ll be covering the US, Great Britain and Ireland, and China (iOS only) markets.

This week's charts cover the period from December 17th to 23rd.

US charts

To little surprise, the most downloaded game on both the App Store and Google Play for the week of December 17th was Supercell's Brawl Stars.

The real-time multiplayer brawler was released globally on December 12th after 544 days in soft launch. Not just topping the free download rankings, Brawl Stars was the fourth biggest grosser on the App Store and ranked eighth on Google Play.

Topping the grossing charts in the build-up to Christmas were Epic's Fortnite on iOS and King's Candy Crush Saga on Android.

Great Britain and Ireland charts

Supercell didn't have it all its own way in Great Britain and Ireland. The top placed games in the free download charts were SayGames' Drive and Park on the App Store and Madbox's Stickman Hook on Google Play. Brawl Stars meanwhile ranked in fifth place on both stores.

Over on the top grossing charts, Brawl Stars took 10th place on the App Store but didn't reach the top 10 on Android. Top place on both stores went to Candy Crush Saga.

China charts (iOS only)

Voodoo maintained its position atop the China free download chart with Crowd City for the week, with Tencent's PUBG Mobile and Eudemons Mobile coming in second and third.

The duopoly of NetEase and Tencent was broken at least temporarily in the top grossing rankings, as Zlong Game and miHoYo took ninth and 10th place with The Weathering Continent and Honkai Impact 3 respectively.

You'll find speakers from many of the companies mentioned above, including Tencent, King and Supercell, at Pocket Gamer Connects London 2019 on January 21st to 22nd.
