The Chinese Football Association plans to establish a national esports football team as it looks to grow its presence in competitive gaming.

As reported by Esports Insider, a notice from the country’s FA said it aims to participate in various tournaments from organisations such as FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation.

To make it happen, it’s now looking for cooperation zones to provide training and competition venues, the ability to organise and manage esports events, and appropriate levels of funding for the team to perform its duties.

Those interested in supporting the move had until July 29th, 2025 to submit a letter of intent.

Overseas expansion

China’s games industry has been expanding on the international stage. A new report showed that overseas revenue for developers rose by 11% to $9.5 billion in H1 2025.
