China's mobile eSports industry expected to generate $2.6 billion in revenue in 2016

Three times more than 2015
China's mobile eSports industry expected to generate $2.6 billion in revenue in 2016

eSports revenues in China are expected to surpass $7.3 billion for 2016 with $2.6 billion generated from mobile eSports alone.

The increased revenue has been attributed by analysis firm IDC to the maturity of eSports in the region. It suggested that competitive gaming has become more professional, with standardised teams and tournament planners.

Mobile eSports has also seen strong growth in China, generating three times the revenue it did in 2015.

The new professional teams have established mobile teams, and companies like Tencent and Hero Entertainment are pushing the eSports angle of their games more.

Times are changing

Hero Entertainment's most recent mobile eSports tournament drew in over five million views across its run. Over 2,000 people attended the event live.

However, IDC also suggests that tighter restrictions on streaming imposed by China's government could affect the future of eSports in the region.
