A new startup by former Panzerdog execs called Nice Plans Studio has secured $3 million in funding to further development of its soft-launched 3v3 shooter Ricochet Squad.
The round was led by family office Pixeldog, with founders contributing $600,000.
Nice Plans Studio’s aim is to "rethink" the shooter genre, running a full game simulation on its server to enable real-time destruction of the in-game world. This means damage and debris caused during combat in one player’s game will appear at the same time and in the same place for others.
The gameplay emphasis is on 3v3 shooter action and tactics, in which this physics system and real-time destruction also play a role.
Retention and revenue
Nice Plans Studio is currently a 21-person distributed team headquartered in Cyprus. Founders Roman Malakhov and Dmitry Koblyk, also the company’s CEO and game director respectively, have been working together for eight years shipping and scaling mobile shooter games.
The founding team behind Nice Plans Studio previously worked Tacticool, a 5v5 tactical shooter on mobile and PC developed by Panzerdog.
That title is said to have been installed more than 30m times and has made over $90m since its 2019 launch.
Nice Plans Studio claimed that Ricochet Squad has outperformed Tacticool in retention, early monetisation and average revenue per user when comparing soft launches, and that the new game has matched "top shooter benchmarks".
Its player-to-payer conversion rate is 4% to 5% on day one. Malakhov informed us that improvements still need to be made to day 30 retention before Nice Plans Studio can commit to a global launch, but the studio currently expects the full rollout to come this autumn.
"Our mission is to evolve mobile multiplayer through games built on shared foundations: physics-driven combat, reimagined controls, meaningful teamplay and systems designed for long-term engagement," said Malakhov.
Having now secured its $3m in funding, Nice Plans Studio is preparing for a Series A round to further scale Ricochet Squad.
The game was previously published by My.Games, but the companies have since parted ways and Nice Plans Studio has published a new version in soft launch by itself.
