Netflix has removed Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City from its games library. The titles originally came to the platform as part of the Grand Theft Auto Definitive Edition Trilogy a year ago.

As reported by What's on Netflix, GTA: San Andreas is still available to play for now. Netflix subscribers who wish to continue playing GTA 3 and Vice City after December 13th will need to buy the games from the Google Play Store or iOS App Store.

“Just like with series and film, games will be removed from Netflix as licenses expire. Players will notice a “Leaving Soon” badge and be notified by the app itself well in advance of removal," a Netflix representative said.

The streaming giant first secured the exclusive mobile release of the GTA Trilogy in November 2023.

A bold bet pays off

Since launching Netflix Games in November 2021, the service has made significant efforts to attract subscribers to its hidden gaming feature.

Sensor Tower Data showed that last year, Netflix Games were downloaded 81.2m times, with games such as the GTA trilogy being key growth factors, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas standing as the platform's most downloaded game.

Earlier this year we spoke to Netflix's VP of external games Leanne Loombe, who shared insights into the company's long-term commitment to gaming and discussed why it remains a key focus for Netflix's future ambitions.
