Nielsen studys shows 83% of all US app downloads are via iPhone or Android

A new report from research firm Nielsen reveals the extent of control that iOS and Android has over the smartphone download market in the US.
The market share of US-based smartphones owners touting an Android or iOS-powered device is predictably dominant.
But while 71 percent of smartphone owners have one of those two in their pockets, app downloads are even higher.
83 percent of all apps downloaded during November were on either iPhone or Android devices.
The better half
Other findings of the report indicate that 44 percent of US mobile subscribers now own smartphones, while 56 percent of those purchasing new phones in the last three months have chosen smartphones.
Android holds the number one spot for OS share with 42 percent, while Apple are the top manufacturer with 28.3 percent.
