UK developer Jagex’s popular MMORPG RuneScape has surpassed $2 billion in lifetime revenue.
The studio said the game, which has been split into two separate titles RuneScape 3 and Old School RuneScape, has garnered over 300 million player accounts worldwide.
RuneScape was first released in 2001 as a browser game and continues to run 24 years later. Jagex launched Old School RuneScape on iOS in 2018 and later released RuneScape 3 for Android and iOS in 2021.
Leadership change
Earlier this week, Phil Mansell stepped down as CEO of Jagex after eight years in the role. He will remain with the company temporarily to assist with the leadership transition.
Taking over the reins is Jon Bellamy, former chief commercial officer at Huuuge Games and a Jagex board member since October 2024.
The leadership change comes a year after Jagex’s acquisition in February 2024 by an investment consortium led by CVC Capital Partners Fund VIII and Haveli Investments. Bellamy is an advisor to CVC.
