Side-scrolling MMORPG MapleStory M launches worldwide

Nexon has launched the portable MMORPG MapleStory M worldwide.

MapleStory M launched in South Korea in October 2016, immediately proving popular in the region. The game hit over two million downloads within two weeks.

Nexon has now launched the MMORPG as a free title across over 140 countries and has localised the game in nine languages.

Early bird

Nexon is celebrating the global launch with a two-week period of rewards for new players, lasting until August 21st. The company is also pushing for streamers to get on board, incentivising content creators with in-game currency, pets and mounts for the most popular channels.

MapleStory M marks the first direct translation of the MapleStory MMORPG format, but Nexon has experimented with bringing the IP to mobile before. The publisher soft-launched card-based PvP game MapleStory Blitz last November.

Nexon is looking to further capitalise on mobile, as DomiNations hit $150 million in time for its third anniversary this June, while its acquisition of Choices developer Pixelberry looks to be an astute one.
