Softgames has acquired Funday Games’ full portfolio of 19 instant games as the company looks to strengthen its position in the instant and social gaming market.
The portfolio spans puzzle, creative, arcade and trivia titles, including Chess Quest, a live social chess game already available on Facebook Instant Games.
Softgames said the acquisition provides both an existing live product and a catalogue of games that can be further developed and deployed across new platforms.
The acquisition is part of a broader strategy, with Softgames actively seeking further acquisitions of games, studios and IP in the instant and HTML5 space.
Instant gaming push
Founded in 2010 and headquartered in Germany, Softgames develops, publishes and operates more than 500 casual instant games across platforms including Meta, Microsoft, Reddit, Discord, Samsung and CrazyGames.
Funday Games, founded in Aarhus, Denmark in 2011, employs more than 50 people and is best known for Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor, which has surpassed two million players since its 2024 launch.
“We are convinced Instant Games is one of the most exciting categories in gaming right now. Acquiring Funday's instant games portfolio accelerates our vision of becoming the go-to home for the world's best instant game experiences," said Softgames CEO Alexander Krug.
“Chess Quest is a fantastic live product, and the instant games catalogue gives us a serious runway. This is the first of several moves we intend to make. We are actively looking for more great games, studios and IPs that share our belief in the power of instant gaming."
"Funday has always believed in games that bring people together – social, instant, joyful experiences that work wherever you are," said Funday Games CEO Kristian Bang Nørgaard.
“Softgames shares that belief completely, and they have the platform expertise and reach to take these games to new audiences we could never have reached alone."
