Thatgamecompany fuses film and gaming in new Sky: Children of the Light animated feature

Thatgamecompany is set to run a limited in-game screening in Sky: Children of the Light of The Two Embers: Part One, a wordless animated feature that tells the origin story of the game.
The developer said the Two Embers is its most ambitious transmedia storytelling project yet, as players will get to experience Sky's origin story.
The Two Embers follows the intertwined stories of two children on parallel journeys separated by time, whose decisions will determine the fate of a declining kingdom.
Part One will tell the journey of an orphan child and a wounded manatee as they navigate a world unraveling under the threat of darkness.
The feature will be previewed in four weekly chapters starting July 21st, streaming within Sky: Children of the Light. Unlike typical game adaptations, The Two Embers and Sky coexist within a shared world.
A new medium
“It’s the kind of story that stays with you - one that may leave you in tears, and grateful to hold your loved ones, and maybe even your pet, just a little closer," said Thatgamecompany CEO and executive creative director Jenova Chen.
In April, Thatgamecompany announced an online game jam with Coreblazer running from May 17th to June 8th, 2025. Winners will receive $10,000 in cash prizes across categories like best overall, visual design, gameplay, and community choice.
