Activision pulls the plug on Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile

Activision has shut down updates for Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile and removed the title from all storefronts.
As part of the game's discontinuation, all in-game purchases have been removed and plans have been made to halt social features for the title.
However, the game's server remains live and players who have already downloaded the title can continue to play. There is currently no official date for shutting down the server permanently.
“Going forward, we will be streamlining the scope of the game," Activision wrote.
“This decision was made after careful consideration of various factors and while we’re proud of the accomplishment in bringing Call of Duty: Warzone to mobile in an authentic way, it unfortunately has not met our expectations with mobile-first players like it has with PC and console audiences."
“We know that this news may be disappointing, and we truly appreciate the support, passion, feedback, and dedication from our community.”
Permanent shutdown imminent
The developer said players can still redeem CoD points, but can no longer spend real-life currency in the game.
Looking back on the first month after it launched in March 2024, Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile generated $6.92 million.
Despite a strong start with $1.4m in the first four days, revenue fell below $1m per week by mid-April, impacted by performance issues, device overheating, and player complaints about excessive bots in the Season 3 update.
Although Activision did not specify a reason for discontinuing updates to the title, it could be due to insufficient player interest on mobile despite amassing over 20m downloads since it launched.
