Apple TV will be launching next week

Apple's CEO Tim Cook has announced at Wall Street Journal Digital Live that its new Apple TV will be launching next week.

This is according to The Verge, which quotes Cook as saying the Apple TV is "the foundation of the future of TV."

Although there's no official word from Apple's PR, it seems that pre-orders will open on Monday 26 October, with deliveries starting Friday 30 October.

Switched on

Announced in September, the Apple TV is primarily designed for streaming, but Apple are keen to push the gaming aspect too, with a motion-control remote, Game Center integration, and its own dedicated App Store.

It will cost $149 for a 32GB model, or $199 for a 64GB, when it launches sometime next week.

There's already a handful of games we're interested in coming to the system, though our Indie Mavens have mixed feelings about the future of the device as a games console.
