Coplay takes over Unity MCP as it reaches key milestones with public beta launch

- Coplay opens public beta to all developers, expanding beyond its invite-only model.
- Now stewarding the Unity MCP server, Coplay deepens support for open-source game dev tools.
- Orchestrator Mode debuts, enabling AI-powered game development via natural language commands.
AI-powered copilot for game developers Coplay has reached new milestones in its growth.
The platform is now the official maintainer of the widely used open-source Unity Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, which launched a new Orchestrator Mode and opened public beta access to more developers.
Coplay said these updates support its mission to integrate AI automation and agentic workflows into game development.
As part of its 2025 roadmap, Coplay has opened its public beta to all developers, expanding beyond its previous invite-only model.
“A new era of game creation"
Now used by both AAA studios and indie teams, Coplay claims it has completed over 750 Unity development features weekly through natural language commands and AI orchestration.
Unity VR developer Justin Barnett originally created the open-source Unity MCP server. As demand grew, Coplay officially took over maintenance to ensure continued support and development.
Barnett also joined Coplay to support the open-source MCP project and contribute to Coplay’s product roadmap.

“We’ve admired what Justin built with Unity MCP and how the community has rallied around it,” said Coplay CEO and co-founder Jos van der Westhuizen.
“By stepping in as its official steward, we’re helping ensure that Unity developers have a reliable and continually improving gateway to AI-powered workflows, whether they use Coplay or not.
“We’re not just building a feature, we’re building a new interface for how creative software should work. By removing friction and giving developers real agency through AI, we’re unlocking a new era of game creation.”
Coplay has released a new visual demo of Orchestrator Mode and opened public beta access to developers via its Discord channel.
