Bitmagic has raised $4 million to develop generative AI technology that allows consumers to create their own 3D games using simple text prompts.

The Finnish company has now launched its platform on Steam Playtest to "democratise game development" by allowing users to create fully playable multiplayer games within seconds.

Korea Investment Partners (KIP) led the funding round for Bitmagic, with additional investments from Supercell, Sisu Game Ventures, and angel investors such as Zak Phelps and Maarten De Koning.

Games… Over?

Betting on a future where users can simply type their desired game into a computer or phone and have it instantly created would seem a worthwhile investment for the aforementioned devs and investors. They are positioning themselves to capitalise on the AI shift rather than be left behind as it potentially cuts out the middleman and takes the strain of game development.

Players ask for a game - Bitmagic makes and delivers it.

“We are thrilled to have the support of such esteemed investors and the expertise of industry leaders like Zak Phelps and Maarten De Koning,” said Bitmagic CEO Jani Penttinen in a release. “This investment will propel our efforts to make game creation accessible to everyone, unleashing a new wave of creativity in the gaming industry.”

"We are incredibly excited to support Bitmagic. Their innovative approach and advanced use of generative AI techniques position them as a true game changer in the industry," said Michael K. Lee, executive director at Korea Investment Partners.

“After evaluating competitors globally, we found Bitmagic to be significantly ahead of the curve, and we believe they have the potential to redefine the future of game development and user-generated content creation.”
