Gaijin Entertainment has acquired one of Fortnite's most successful user-created maps, The Pit.

Before the purchase, Gaijin and creator Geerzy transferred management of The Pit to EndoWorlds, a Gaijin portfolio studio.

After a two-month transition, both parties agreed the new team is well-equipped to grow the experience further.

Gaijin said that through this acquisition, it will expand beyond its traditional portfolio and embrace new business models to deliver fresh games experiences across current and future platforms.

New opportunities

The multi-million-dollar acquisition marks a strategic shift for Gaijin, signaling its entry into the UGC space within the games' creative ecosystem.

With Fortnite’s monetisation model rewarding creator engagement, the company claimed the acquisition offers Gaijin a profitable and scalable growth opportunity.

“The acquisition of The Pit marks a new chapter for us," said Gaijin Entertainment founder Anton Yudintsev. “We are committed to supporting innovative games experiences, and UGC on platforms such as Fortnite is a new exciting opportunity for us".

The Pit creator Geerzy commented: "The Pit has been a defining project for me, and I’m thrilled to see it enter a new phase under Gaijin Entertainment. Their expertise in online games and commitment to innovation make them the perfect team to take The Pit to the next level."

EVP of the Fortnite ecosystem at Epic Games Saxs Persson also commented: “When we launched Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), we envisioned building an ecosystem where creators could develop engaging experiences and choose how to grow their business in Fortnite.

“It’s awesome to see the investment from Gaijin, and we hope investments like this will lead to new opportunities for creators.”
