Game engine Godot rolls out asset store in early beta

Open-source engine Godot has launched its assets store in beta.
The Godot Asset Store is still in its early development phase, with limited features and just over 50 free assets currently available.
While paid assets are planned for the future, the creators said immediate focus is on migrating content from the existing Godot Asset Library.
In future updates, the Godot Asset Store will include features like drag-and-drop asset installation, sales analytics, a rating system, and more to improve usability and functionality.
Work in progress
There is currently no official release date for the Godot Asset Store, and the team has revealed that “the site is primarily designed for desktop devices” and will work towards making every page easy to navigate on mobile devices.
“Our priority right now is to replace the current Asset Library," said Godot Foundation executive director Emilio Coppola in a post. "Once we are happy with the new platform, we'll start rolling out paid assets.
“To do this, we are going to be working with a certain group of asset creators that will help us out iron out all the features necessary for them to operate similarly to other platforms.
“Once we are all happy about it, we'll start offering the option to charge for assets published in the store to everyone."
In December 2023, Irish start-up W4 Games raised $15 million in Series A funding to support the development of Godot and create new tools for developers.
By March 2024, we wrote about how Godot had emerged as a strong competitor to Unity, particularly at GDC 2024, where it had a more prominent presence than Unity.
