Mobile games developer Madbox has opened a new studio in Annecy, France.

Aptly named Madbox Annecy, the office will be led by game lead Arthur Michel, alongside game manager Hugues Barlet and senior game developer Clément Auvray.

The new office, located in a co-working space, houses two 'new games' teams.

This marks Madbox's second studio in France as the company aims to strengthen its development teams for new titles. Over 30% of its workforce was recruited in 2024, leading to a current team size of 100 employees.

The developer aims to further increase its workforce by 15% this year, half of which will be for the Annecy studio.

Pushing boundaries

Founded in 2018, Madbox has studios in Paris, Barcelona and now Annecy. It claims its games have reached over 600 million players globally, with Pocket Champs amassing 45m installs in three years and 5m monthly active players.

“The main rationale behind choosing Annecy is that we believe the best teams make the best games, and we strive to assemble the best gamers with a unique chemistry," Madbox CEO and co-founder Maxime Demeure told PocketGamer.biz.

"We give them ample creative freedom to create unique games that will make millions smile while playing.

"At Madbox, we had the perfect team for this, and they desired a unique space in a beautiful and creative city. We decided to take the risk and do something new by creating a new place for a great team we believed in. This led us to open the Annecy studio.

"It's a bet on a team, which is exactly what Madbox has been about since its creation."
