Roblox unveils License Manager to let developers build with popular IPs

Roblox has unveiled its new License Manager and license catalogue tools designed to help developers collaborate with popular IPs across various industries.
Roblox said it aims to empower creators by allowing them to use official franchises in their games by requesting licenses from IP holders following specified terms and revenue-sharing agreements.
The company plans to launch the Licence Manager and catalogue in early Q3. The launch will also give creators a chance to dispute claims if they believe no IP is being used.
At launch, Roblox will reveal its first group of IP partners for the licenses catalogue, with plans to eventually allow all verified IP holders - including individual creators - to offer licenses.
Eligibility requirements
Licenses on Roblox outline the terms for how creators can use specific IPs, including revenue share rates and eligibility criteria set by the IP owners.
“Eligibility requirements may include the maximum allowed content maturity rating, minimum number of active players, and more," said Roblox in a DevForum post. “A license also has standard terms and specific content standards to follow and ensure the IP is being used properly.
“When registering their IP to create a license, the owner needs to identify their trademarks and meet other documentation requirements."
Roblox said it will also update its Terms of Use on June 6th to reflect new licensing partnerships with IP owners.
