Scopely’s blockbuster mobile game Monopoly Go has surpassed $5 billion just two years after its release.
The company claimed the title is the fastest mobile game to reach the milestone. It said the previous benchmark was 40 months - likely a reference to HoYoverse’s Genshin Impact, based on data.ai estimates.
It’s worth noting that those figures for Genshin do not include revenue from third-party Android stores, such as the highly lucrative marketplaces available in China.
Expanding team
Scopely said more than 80 million landmarks had been destroyed in the game, with six billion boards completed and 450 million friend invites sent.
In a blog post, the publisher’s games president Massimo Maietti said the team had grown from a small core team in California to a distributed development team of over 500 staff across multiple countries.
Moving forward, the team aims to implement new board designs, tile functionalities and enhanced PvP mechanics into the game, as well as tournaments, mini-games and themed events.
