Square Enix is shutting down two more mobile games in Japan, as Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and Dragon Quest of the Stars are set to end service on October 31st, 2025.

Both 2015 titles, they will celebrate their 10th anniversaries before the shutdown with events planned for each game. Dragon Quest of the Stars is set to distribute substantial amounts of in-game currency and equipment, while Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is wrapping up its final chapter.

The Dragon Quest title will celebrate its anniversary on October 15th, followed by Brave Exvius on October 22nd.

Another two bite the dust

The game closures are the latest in a long line of Square Enix titles to reach end of service, which includes the global version of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. Over recent years, other shuttered mobile titles include Echoes of Mana, Dragon Quest Monsters: Super Light, SinoAlice and Nier Reincarnation.

The studio has also cancelled two Nier games and the long-awaited geolocation game Kingdom Hearts Missing Link.

Square Enix did not give a reason for closing down Brave Exvius in Japan, with its statement only explaining that the game’s management team "have decided to end service". After October 31st, there are plans to release a Memorial Edition where former players will be able to view units and cards.

Dragon Quest of the Stars, meanwhile, already closed down globally in 2021. The Japanese version has continued to operate years thereafter, but in-game currency sales have now ceased ahead of its closure this autumn.

According to AppMagic data, Brave Exvius has generated $510 million in Japan and Dragon Quest of the Stars $877.8m between Google Play and the App Store. Both games peaked before the global pandemic.

More recently, Final Fantasy XIV Mobile launched in China this June, expanding the popular MMORPG to a new platform.
